Deadbolt Installation Services
Able Lock Shop: Trusted Deadbolt Installation for Long Island Homeowners
A quality deadbolt is your home’s first line of defense against break-ins and forced entry. Able Lock Shop installs deadbolts for homeowners throughout Nassau County and Suffolk County who want stronger security, better peace of mind, and hardware that stands up to Long Island weather. Whether you’re upgrading builder-grade locks, adding protection to side doors and basement entries, or replacing worn-out deadbolts that no longer turn smoothly, our licensed locksmiths provide expert installation on all major brands.
Many homes in Garden City, Mineola, and New Hyde Park were built with basic knob locks that offer minimal security. A properly installed Grade 1 deadbolt makes forced entry significantly harder and gives you control over who has access to your home. Deadbolts also protect against lock bumping and picking, two common methods used in residential break-ins.
When you choose Able Lock Shop for residential locksmith services, you’re working with factory-trained technicians who have installed thousands of deadbolts across Long Island since 1945. We assess your door type, frame condition, and security needs before recommending the right deadbolt. From single-cylinder Schlage deadbolts to smart deadbolts with smartphone control, we handle every lock installation with precision and care. You get upfront pricing, same-day service in most cases, and a deadbolt that works perfectly from day one.

Types of Deadbolts We Install
Not all deadbolts provide the same level of security. Able Lock Shop installs deadbolts in every security grade and style, and we help you choose the right one based on your door type, location, and how you use the entry.
Single-cylinder deadbolts are the most common type. They use a key on the outside and a thumb turn on the inside, making them convenient for daily use. Single-cylinder deadbolts work well on solid wood doors, steel doors, and fiberglass doors. They’re ideal for front doors, back doors, and side entries where you don’t have glass panels nearby.
Double-cylinder deadbolts require a key on both sides. These are recommended for doors with glass panels or windows within reach of the lock, since an intruder can’t simply break the glass and turn a thumb turn from inside. Double-cylinder deadbolts provide added security but require you to keep a key nearby in case of emergency exit needs.
Smart and keyless deadbolts let you lock and unlock your door using a smartphone app, keypad code, or fingerprint scanner. Brands like Schlage Encode, Kwikset Halo, and August Smart Lock offer remote access, activity logs, and the ability to create temporary codes for family members or service providers. These deadbolts are popular with homeowners who want modern convenience without sacrificing security.
Jimmy-proof deadbolts are surface-mounted locks often used on basement doors, apartment doors, and commercial entries. They resist forced entry from prying and are nearly impossible to pick or bump. If your door swings outward or you need reinforced protection on a vulnerable entry, a jimmy-proof deadbolt is a strong option.
We also install high-security locks with bump-proof, pick-resistant cylinders for homeowners seeking the highest level of protection.
Security Grades and What They Mean
Deadbolts are rated by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) based on strength and durability. Understanding these grades helps you choose the right deadbolt for your home.
Grade 1 deadbolts are the strongest option, tested to withstand 10 strikes of 75 pounds of force and last through 800,000 cycles. They’re recommended for front doors and primary entry points. Most insurance companies and security professionals specify Grade 1 for exterior doors facing streets, driveways, or alleys.
Grade 2 deadbolts are mid-level locks that resist 5 strikes of 75 pounds and last through 400,000 cycles. They’re suitable for side doors, garage entries, and back doors where traffic is lighter. Grade 2 deadbolts offer solid security at a lower cost than Grade 1.
Grade 3 deadbolts are entry-level locks that resist 2 strikes of 75 pounds and last through 200,000 cycles. While they meet basic building codes, they don’t provide the same durability or forced-entry resistance as higher grades.
Our locksmiths assess your door’s location and security priorities before recommending a grade. For most Nassau County homeowners, we recommend Grade 1 for front doors and Grade 2 for secondary entries.
If you already have a quality deadbolt but need new keys, you can rekey your deadbolt instead of replacing it.
